British owners of holiday homes in France are to be hit with punitive tax rises under plans announced by the new Socialist government.

The proposal now needs to be ratified by Parliament at the end of July 2012. The UK treasury immediately announced that they would be studying the proposals and will challenge any which breaches European single market laws and anti-discrimination rules.
